Augustines, originally known as We Are Augustines, was an American indie rock band that captured the attention and hearts of audiences with their earnest lyrics and compelling melodies. The group formed in 2010, following the dissolution of the band Pela - the previous project of founding members Billy McCarthy and Eric Sanderson. Teaming up with drummer Rob Allen, the trio sought to create music that spoke to personal struggles and triumphs, a theme that echoed poignantly in their first album, "Rise Ye Sunken Ships," released in 2011. The album dealt with heavy subject matter, including McCarthy's turbulent family history, and received critical acclaim for its raw emotional power and sweeping soundscapes.
As the band moved forward, they shortened their name to Augustines and released their self-titled album "Augustines" in 2014. This eponymous record continued to solidify the band's reputation for anthemic indie rock, with tracks that showcased their dynamic storytelling and robust musicianship. Their third and final studio album, "This Is Your Life," arrived in 2016, offering a collection of songs that encouraged resilience and celebrated life's unpredictable journey. Despite building a dedicated fanbase and achieving artistic success, the band announced their farewell in 2016, and solidified their legacy with their final release, "When Things Fall Apart." The Augustines disbanded, leaving behind a potent discography that resonates with authenticity and the indomitable spirit of overcoming adversity.
