Polvo is an American indie rock band that emerged from the early 1990s Chapel Hill, North Carolina music scene. The band is known for their innovative melding of guitar-driven rock, complex rhythmic structures, and experimental noise textures. Formed in 1990 by Ash Bowie (vocals, guitar), Dave Brylawski (guitar), Steve Popson (bass), and Eddie Watkins (drums), Polvo quickly became a touchstone of the burgeoning math rock genre, though their sound often defied such neat categorization.
After releasing a series of critically acclaimed albums throughout the '90s, including "Cor-Crane Secret" (1992), "Today's Active Lifestyles" (1993), "Celebrate the New Dark Age" (1994), and "Exploded Drawing" (1996), Polvo earned a dedicated following for their artful balance of melody and dissonance. They disbanded in 1998 after their "Shapes" album, leaving behind a legacy of creativity and innovation. However, the band reunited in 2008 and went on to release "In Prism" in 2009 and "Siberia" in 2013, showcasing a renewed vitality and furthering their reputation for crafting intricate, cerebral music that resonates with fans of the avant-garde.
