Ruizinho De Penacova

Ruizinho de Penacova is a vibrant figure in Portuguese traditional music, well-known for his lively and spontaneous "desgarradas"—improvised sung duels that bring a unique joy and humor to any Portuguese festa. Raised in Penacova, where he still lives with his family, Ruizinho's musical roots run deep, having inherited his passion from his father, an accordionist involved with local ranchos (folk groups). From a young age, he was drawn to singing and music; although he started with the accordion, he later found his true voice with the concertina, a traditional instrument, which he plays while performing at events and with ranchos, including the Rancho de Caminha in Serra D’Arga.

His music, including popular songs like "Isto Arranca Ou Não Arranca?" and "Já Não Há Dinheiro," captures the spirit and social commentary of Portuguese folk tradition through playful and poignant lyrics. Ruizinho embodies the heart of Portuguese cultural festivities, combining musical skill, storytelling, and a gift for engaging audiences with laughter and song.
