Peter Schickele is an American composer, conductor, and musical satirist. He is best known for his creation of the fictional composer P.D.Q. Bach, the "last of the 21 Bach children." Schickele has written numerous works for P.D.Q. Bach, including operas, concertos, and symphonies, all of which are performed with a straight face but are full of musical jokes and puns. Schickele has also written serious works, including chamber music, orchestral works, and operas. He has received numerous awards for his work, including the Pulitzer Prize for Music in 1985.
