Branka Musulin

Branka Musulin was a Croatian classical pianist celebrated for her refined interpretations of Romantic and Classical repertoire. Born in 1918 in Osijek, she studied at the Vienna Academy of Music and built a career marked by collaborations with major orchestras like the Vienna Philharmonic and Berlin Philharmonic, as well as conductors including Karl Böhm and Herbert von Karajan. Known for her crisp technique and lyrical sensitivity, Musulin specialized in bringing out the emotional depth of composers like Chopin, Schumann, and Mozart—evident in beloved recordings of their piano concertos. She also championed 20th-century works, like Jean Françaix’s playful Piano Concerto. Beyond performing, Musulin dedicated decades to teaching at the Vienna Academy, mentoring future generations of pianists. Though she passed away in 1975, her recordings remain a testament to her elegant artistry, offering listeners a window into the golden age of mid-20th-century classical pianism.
