Damien O'Kane

Damien O’Kane is a Northern Irish folk musician known for his innovative approach to traditional music, especially through his work with the banjo. Originally from Coleraine, O'Kane is a skilled singer, arranger, and instrumentalist whose solo work blends Irish folk roots with contemporary production and creative flair. He’s widely recognized for pushing the boundaries of folk music with albums like "Areas of High Traffic," where he reimagines traditional songs with fresh arrangements and compelling instrumentation.

O’Kane frequently collaborates with fellow musician and wife Kate Rusby, as well as with virtuoso guitarist Ron Block, with whom he co-created the albums "Banjophony" and "Banjophonics." These projects highlight his signature sound—a mix of driving banjo melodies, rich harmonies, and inventive rhythms.
