María Teresa Chenlo

María Teresa Chenlo is a celebrated Uruguayan-born harpsichordist and pianist who has made a big splash on the international music scene. She started out studying piano in her hometown of Florida, Uruguay, but her passion for Baroque music led her to focus on the harpsichord, where she’s become known for her expressive, intuitive playing style. After building a strong foundation in Uruguay and winning top prizes as a soloist, she moved to Europe to study with renowned teachers like Genoveva Gálvez in Spain and the legendary Rafael Puyana in Paris—experiences that deeply shaped her artistry.

Chenlo’s career is marked by a wide range of recordings and performances, from Baroque and contemporary works to lesser-known 19th-century keyboard music from Uruguay, which she’s helped bring to light through both research and recordings. She’s collaborated with major orchestras and composers, including premiering works by Sergio Cervetti and recording pieces by José Luis Turina. Her dedication to both historical and modern repertoire, combined with her warm, musical approach, has earned her international acclaim and a string of awards, including the prestigious Jacques Antoine Prize at the Monte Carlo Festival.
