Japancakes is an indie rock band from Brooklyn, New York. Formed in 2003, the band consists of Bryan Devendorf (drums), Chris Bear (bass), and Max Zenger (guitar and vocals). Their music is characterized by its dreamy, atmospheric sound, with influences ranging from shoegaze to post-punk. Japancakes have released several albums and EPs, including their self-titled debut in 2005 and "Behind the Mountains" in 2010. They have toured extensively throughout the United States and Europe, and have shared the stage with bands such as Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr., and Yo La Tengo.
