Anjna Swaminathan is a vocalist, composer, and improviser whose music draws from Carnatic (South Indian classical) music and creative music traditions. She's known for her powerful and expressive vocal style, often incorporating extended techniques, improvisation, and electronics into her performances. Anjna explores themes of social justice, spirituality, and the intersection of her Tamil heritage with her experiences growing up in the United States. She has collaborated with a wide range of artists across different genres and has performed at venues and festivals internationally.
Beyond her solo work, Anjna is a dedicated educator and collaborator. She's a co-founder of the Brooklyn Raga Massive, a collective that promotes and supports South Asian classical music in New York City. She also co-leads the Amirtha Project, a duo with violinist Arun Ramamurthy that explores Carnatic music through improvisation and original compositions. Anjna's commitment to community and musical exploration is evident in her diverse and ever-evolving body of work.
