Los Kjarkas is one of the most iconic folk music groups to come out of Bolivia, known for their role in popularizing Andean music across Latin America and beyond. Formed in 1965 by the Hermosa brothers in the small town of Capinota, Cochabamba, the group blends traditional Andean instruments like the charango, quena, and zampoña with poetic lyrics and harmonies that celebrate Bolivian culture, love, and nature. Their music has had international influence, even inspiring global hits—most notably the melody of their song “Llorando se fue” was adapted into the 1989 global dance hit “Lambada” by the French-Brazilian band Kaoma.
Over the decades, Los Kjarkas have released dozens of albums and remained incredibly active, constantly touring and evolving their sound while staying true to their cultural roots. Albums like Amor y Romance and Así Suena Bolivia showcase their enduring passion and musical craftsmanship. Beyond their recordings, they’ve also been instrumental in mentoring younger artists and preserving traditional Andean music for new generations.
