Omri Ziegele is a Swiss jazz saxophonist born in 1959 in Rehovot, Israel. He grew up in Zürich and initially played the clarinet before discovering jazz and the saxophone at the Kantonsschule Rämibühl. Ziegele further honed his skills in London and at Boston's Berklee College of Music, where he was influenced by musicians like Bob Mover and Chris Biscoe. He is known for leading his own bands and has been a central figure in the Swiss jazz scene, particularly with his ensemble *Billiger Bauer*, which he formed in 1996. This group is notable for its unconventional lineup, often featuring two bassists and two drummers.
Ziegele's musical collaborations are diverse and include work with notable artists such as Irène Schweizer and Makaya Ntshoko. His discography includes albums like *The Silence Behind Each Cry*, *Where's Africa*, *Can Walk on Sand*, and *So viel schon hin – 15 Herbstlieder*. More recently, he has released albums like *All Those Yesterdays* with his Tomorrow Trio and *That Hat* with the group Where’s Africa. Ziegele's music often explores the realm of free jazz, showcasing his unique approach to improvisation and composition.
