Magic Slim

Magic Slim, born Morris Holt on August 7, 1937, was a renowned American blues singer and guitarist. Born in Torrance, near Grenada, Mississippi, Slim's journey with the blues began following a cotton gin accident in which he lost his little finger, causing him to switch from piano to guitar. After moving to Chicago during the great migration in the 1950s, he was immersed in the thriving blues scene and took his stage name "Magic Slim" in tribute to his friend and fellow musician Magic Sam.

A towering figure in the blues genre, both in stature and influence, Slim became known for his electrifying performances and raw, powerful guitar playing. With his band, the Teardrops, he established a reputation for gritty, down-home blues that harked back to the music's golden age. Throughout his career, Slim released multiple albums that showcased his gruff vocals and commanding guitar licks, his style remaining firmly rooted in the Chicago blues tradition.

His contributions to music were recognized with numerous awards, including several Blues Music Awards. Magic Slim's legacy in the blues scene is remarkable, with albums such as "Scufflin'", "Black Tornado," and "Blue Magic". Unfortunately, Slim passed away on February 21, 2013, leaving behind a rich discography, including his most recent releases such as "The Essential Magic Slim" and "Born On A Bad Sign". His raw, emotive style and longevity in the industry have made him a beloved figure and an icon of Chicago blues.
