Kristina Hammarström

Kristina Hammarström is a Swedish mezzo-soprano and violinist known for her versatile and rich interpretations in opera and concert performances. Trained at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, she has built an impressive international career, performing at some of the world’s most prestigious opera houses including Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Vienna State Opera, Opéra National Paris, and the Bavarian State Opera. Her repertoire is wide-ranging but strongly focused on Baroque roles, with notable portrayals in Handel operas such as *Lotario*, *Oreste*, and *Alcina*, as well as works by Gluck, Vivaldi, Mozart, and Cavalli. She frequently performs “trouser roles” or male characters originally written for castrati, a tradition revived today with female mezzo-sopranos and countertenors. Hammarström is also acclaimed for concert works including Haydn’s *Missa Cellensis* and *Stabat Mater*, and she collaborates with leading conductors like René Jacobs, William Christie, and Philippe Herreweghe.

Besides opera, Kristina has toured widely and featured at prominent festivals including Salzburg, Aix-en-Provence, and Handel Festival Halle, showcasing her skill in both dramatic and lyrical roles.
