Péter Bársony is a renowned Hungarian violist and professor at both the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest and the Kunstuniversität Graz. Born in Budapest in 1975, he graduated from the Franz Liszt Academy in 2000. Bársony is a frequent recitalist, soloist, and chamber musician, collaborating with notable artists such as Márta Gulyás, Zoltán Kocsis, and Miklós Perényi. He has performed at prestigious festivals like the Ravinia Festival and Mostly Mozart, and has worked closely with contemporary composers like György Kurtág and Péter Eötvös. Bársony has been a member of the Keller String Quartet and served as the solo viola player for Concerto Budapest from 2000 to 2013. He has received the prestigious Liszt Ferenc Prize in 2012 and has made notable recordings, including world premieres on the Hungaroton label.
Bársony's recent releases reflect his diverse musical interests, featuring works by Ligeti, Kurtág, Schumann, Brahms, Haydn, and Hubay. His performances have taken him to Carnegie Hall, where he debuted with the American Symphony Orchestra in 2013. As an educator, he regularly gives masterclasses around the world, including in China, the UK, Germany, and the USA. His contributions to the music world are marked by both his dedication to classical repertoire and his passion for contemporary music.
