The Maccabees were a British indie rock band that captured the hearts of music lovers with their rich, guitar-driven sound and poetic lyricism. Formed in 2004 in South London, the band originally consisted of Orlando Weeks (vocals), Hugo White (guitars), Felix White (guitars and backing vocals), Rupert Jarvis (bass), and Sam Doyle (drums), after the original drummer Robert Dylan Thomas left the band. They quickly emerged from the UK indie scene with their energetic performances and a series of critically acclaimed albums.
Their discography includes four studio albums and a slew of singles and EPs that showcased their evolution both musically and lyrically. "Spit It Out" and "Marks To Prove It" are among their later, standout tracks from their fourth and final studio album 'Marks To Prove It' released in 2015. Notably, that album earned them their first UK number one and showed a more mature, thematically complex side of the band. Their body of work also includes the albums "Given to the Wild" (2012), a lush, Mercury Prize-nominated record, and "Wall of Arms" (2009), which featured an expanded sound and denser production compared to their debut "Colour It In" (2007). The Maccabees announced their breakup in 2016 to the disappointment of fans, closing the chapter on a band that had become synonymous with the noughties British indie rock movement and leaving behind a legacy that continued to influence emerging artists.
