Südwestdeutsches Kammerorchester

The Südwestdeutsches Kammerorchester Pforzheim is a well-established German chamber orchestra founded in 1950 by Friedrich Tilegant, a student of Paul Hindemith. Known for its *fresh and gripping musical approach* and wide-ranging repertoire from early to contemporary music, the orchestra consists of a core group of fourteen musicians representing seven different countries, which contributes to its unique and flexible sound. It has gained international recognition through performances at prestigious festivals such as Salzburg, Lucerne, and Leipzig, as well as worldwide tours and over 300 recordings with renowned labels like Deutsche Grammophon and Erato.

Over the years, the orchestra has worked with many celebrated soloists including Yehudi Menuhin, Maurice André, and Nigel Kennedy, and collaborated with distinguished conductors such as Paul Angerer, Vladislav Czarnecki, Sebastian Tewinkel, and since 2019, British conductor Douglas Bostock as its Artistic Director. The ensemble has performed extensively across Europe, the USA, and Japan, and is praised for its stylistic diversity and the so-called "Tilegant sound" that defined its early years.
