Bengt Löfberg is a celebrated Swedish folk fiddler born on September 17, 1944, in Kalmar församling, Småland. He became one of the key figures in the Swedish "folkmusikvågen" (folk music revival) of the 1970s, breathing new life into traditional music by revitalizing older playing styles together with fellow fiddler Pelle Björnlert. Löfberg’s collaboration with Björnlert produced notable albums such as En roliger dans and Raskens trall, but he’s also recognized for his later works, including the trio project Mikaelidansen (with Pekkari and Björnlert), as well as his solo albums Luringen and Gubbstöt, the latter featuring a new generation with the addition of his son, Anders Löfberg. For his contributions to Swedish folk music, Löfberg has been honored with both the silver and gold Zorn Badges, prestigious awards in the Swedish folk music scene. His recordings continue to be cherished for their authenticity and playful energy, making him a respected elder statesman of the genre.
