The **MZ Duo** is a London-based saxophone and accordion ensemble formed by Canadian saxophonist David Zucchi and Spanish accordionist Iñigo Mikeleiz-Berrade. Graduates of the Royal College of Music and the Royal Academy of Music, the pair came together in 2019 in the spirit of mutual curiosity and open-mindedness. Their unique instrumental pairing challenges what people think each instrument can do, showcasing their versatility across everything from reimagined traditional works to modern compositions and improvisation.
The duo has quickly made a name for themselves on the UK and European classical music scene, winning the Royal Overseas League Annual Music Competition's Mixed Ensemble Prize in 2021 and becoming City Music Foundation Artists in 2022. They've performed at prestigious venues including Wigmore Hall, St. Martin-in-the-Fields, and Edinburgh Fringe, while also appearing on BBC Radio 3. Their exciting new album *Contradance*, recorded with Delphian Records, explores dance-related repertoire and features their own arrangements of works by Ravel, Bartók, and Granados, alongside brilliant new compositions by award-winning contemporary composers.
