Giuseppe Sarti

Giuseppe Sarti (1729-1802) was a distinguished Italian composer of the classical period, renowned for his operatic and sacred music. Born in Faenza, Italy, Sarti was recognized early on for his musical talents and received a comprehensive musical education, which included siring as a pupil of renowned composer Padre Martini. Over the course of his life, Sarti served in various prestigious positions across Europe, including working as maestro di cappella at the court of Copenhagen and later in St. Petersburg under the patronage of Catherine the Great. His international career significantly influenced the development of musical styles across the continent.

Sarti's compositional output was prolific and covered a wide range of musical genres, but it is his operas that garnered him the most fame, with over 50 to his name.
