Minutemen were an influential American punk rock band formed in 1980 in San Pedro, California. Consisting of guitarist/vocalist D. Boon, bassist/vocalist Mike Watt, and drummer George Hurley, the trio quickly became known for their eclectic mix of punk, jazz, funk, and other genres, as well as their fiercely independent ethos. They released a string of groundbreaking albums and EPs, including "Double Nickels on the Dime" (1984), which is widely regarded as a masterpiece of the post-punk era.
Minutemen's music was characterized by brief, intense songs with politically charged lyrics and innovative musicianship. Their DIY approach and prolific output left a lasting impact on the punk rock scene and beyond. Tragically, the band’s journey ended with the death of D. Boon in a car accident in December 1985, but their legacy lives on through their influential discography and the enduring respect of their peers and fans.
