Myer Fredman

Myer Fredman (1932-2002) was an Australian conductor known for his championing of British music, particularly lesser-known composers like Havergal Brian and Eugene Goossens. He was a driving force behind the revival of Brian's massive and complex symphonies, many of which received their first recordings under Fredman's baton. He also had a deep affinity for the works of Delius, Elgar, Bax, and other English composers, bringing a passionate and insightful approach to their music. His recordings are considered essential listening for anyone interested in exploring the richness and diversity of British orchestral music.

Beyond his focus on British repertoire, Fredman also conducted works by composers from other countries, including Respighi and Britten. He held conducting positions with several orchestras, including the Queensland Symphony Orchestra and the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra. Dedicated to music education, he was a professor at the University of Adelaide and a respected mentor to young musicians. His legacy continues to inspire conductors and listeners alike, ensuring that the music he championed remains alive and appreciated.
