Delroy Wilson

Delroy Wilson was a cornerstone of Jamaican music and one of the true pioneers of reggae and rocksteady. Born in 1948 in Kingston, Jamaica, he started recording at a young age for legendary producer Coxsone Dodd at Studio One. Early on, he was known for his ska and rocksteady hits in the 1960s, including "Dancing Mood" and "I'm in a Dancing Mood," and he later transitioned smoothly into the roots reggae era. With his soulful voice and emotive delivery, Wilson became known as one of reggae's most expressive vocalists.

Over the years, Delroy Wilson teamed up with a number of top producers and artists, and his catalog includes a wide range of styles—from sweet love songs to socially conscious anthems. He earned the nickname "Cool Operator" thanks to his smooth vocal style and enduring presence on the Jamaican music scene. His influence can be heard in countless reggae acts that followed, and he remains a celebrated figure in the genre’s history.
