Blackfoot

Blackfoot is an American Southern rock band hailing from Jacksonville, Florida, that was most prominent during the late 1970s and early 1980s. Formed in 1969 by lead vocalist and guitarist Rickey Medlocke, who would later join Lynyrd Skynyrd, Blackfoot was known for its hard-rocking sound influenced by the musicians' Native American heritage. The band's lineup solidified with guitarist Charlie Hargrett, bassist Greg T. Walker, and drummer Jakson Spires. They achieved commercial success with albums like "Strikes" (1979), "Tomcattin'" (1980), and "Marauder" (1981), which featured hits such as "Train, Train" and "Highway Song." These tracks exemplify their blend of fierce guitar riffs and bluesy, soulful melodies representative of the Southern rock genre.

Through the years, Blackfoot experienced numerous lineup changes with Rickey Medlocke being the cornerstone before he fully committed to Lynyrd Skynyrd. The band quit performing in 1984 but was revived later with various incarnations. Despite these changes, the heart of their music remains rooted in the Southern rock tradition. With live releases like "Highway Song Live" and studio albums including "Vertical Smiles" and "Siogo," Blackfoot has maintained a presence in the rock scene. The band, under Medlocke's guidance, attempted to pass the torch to a new generation of musicians and preserve their hard-earned legacy through fresh material and touring, such as seen in the 2016 album "Southern Native," which marked a new chapter in Blackfoot's enduring saga of rock 'n' roll.
