The Del-Vikings

The Del-Vikings, also known as The Dell-Vikings, are a pioneering American doo-wop musical group, renowned for their 1950s hits and the integration of their band. Formed in 1955 by members of the United States Air Force stationed in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, The Del-Vikings broke cultural barriers as one of the first racially integrated performing groups of the era. Consisting of both black and white singers at different points, their harmony-rich vocal style defined an era of sound, transcending societal boundaries of the time.

The group scored their most significant hits with the chart-topping songs "Come Go With Me" and "Whispering Bells," tracks that continue to resonate as classics of the doo-wop genre. After their initial success and despite numerous lineup changes and label switches, The Del-Vikings endured as beloved oldies icons, often revisiting their hits with re-recorded versions to delight of both original fans and new listeners. Over the decades, their music has been featured in movies and on television, becoming an enduring symbol of 1950s American pop culture. The legacy of The Del-Vikings is not only encapsulated in their music but also in their contribution to the nascent civil rights movement by simply being a group that embraced diversity during a time of significant racial divide in the United States.
