PASSEPIED

PASSEPIED is a Japanese rock/pop band that has carved a niche for themselves in the world of contemporary music with their signature blend of intricate rhythms, complex arrangements, and a fresh take that fuses classical influences with a modern pop sensibility. Formed in 2009 by keyboardist Narita Haneda—a graduate of the Tokyo University of the Arts—as the primary composer, PASSEPIED quickly established themselves as a group with avant-garde artistry and accessible pop appeal. The band's name itself, derived from a type of French baroque dance called "passepied," reflects their eclectic and rhythmic style that is as entrancing as it is dynamic.

The members include vocalist Natsuki Ogoda, whose distinctive voice and lyrical prowess add depth to the band's sonically rich tapestry. Alongside are guitarist Masahiro Misawa, bassist Yoshikuni Tsuyuzaki, and drummer Takuya Yao, each contributing to the diverse and layered sound PASSEPIED is known for. Their body of work demonstrates versatility and a willingness to experiment, as evidenced by their collection of engaging releases such as "印象万象有象無象," "cube," and "化石のうた." With songs like "バジリコ" and "GOKKO," they maintain a contemporary edge while tracks like "ukabubaku" and "発色" show their ability to infuse pop elements with unexpected musical twists. The contemplative "かはたれ時に," the ethereal "浮遊層," and the feverish "微熱" round out a discography that captures the essence of a band unafraid to redefine genres and explore the boundaries of popular music.
