Hawthorne Heights is an American rock band from Dayton, Ohio, that initially formed in 2001 under the name A Day in the Life. However, their journey to prominence began after they changed their name to Hawthorne Heights and released their breakout album, "The Silence in Black and White," in 2004. The band became a key figure in the mid-2000s emo and post-hardcore scene, with their iconic single “Ohio Is for Lovers” becoming an anthem for a generation of alternative music fans. The original lineup consisted of JT Woodruff (vocals, guitar), Matt Ridenour (bass guitar, backing vocals), Micah Carli (guitar), and Eron Bucciarelli (drums), later adding Mark McMillon (guitar, vocals) after the untimely death of rhythm guitarist and unclean vocalist Casey Calvert in 2007 — an event that profoundly affected the band and their sound.
Over the years, Hawthorne Heights has shown resilience and adaptability, dealing with lineup changes and the evolving music industry while maintaining their emotive edge and passionate fan base. Their discography is marked by a journey through heartache, recovery, and maturation, which is reflected in albums such as "If Only You Were Lonely" and their later works like "The Rain Just Follows Me." Celebrating their longevity and influence, "If Only You Were Lonely XV" commemorates the 15th anniversary of their pivotal second album, offering a fresh take on the classic tracks that defined their early career. Despite the changing tides of musical tastes, Hawthorne Heights continues to connect with audiences new and old through their evocative storytelling and compelling blend of melodic intensity and post-hardcore grit, as echoed in recent releases such as "Lost Lights" and "Dandelions."
