Hungarian National Chorus

The Hungarian National Chorus, originally founded as the Hungarian State Choir in 1985, has become one of Hungary's leading professional choirs. Under the leadership of Mátyás Antal from 1990 to 2016, the ensemble gained prominence for its performances of vocal compositions accompanied by orchestra, oratorios, and a cappella works. Their repertoire is incredibly diverse, spanning from early Baroque to contemporary music, with a particular emphasis on 19th-century oratorios and modern compositions.

The choir is known for its dedication to premiering contemporary works, including pieces by Hungarian composers like Zoltán Jeney and György Kurtág. They regularly collaborate with the Hungarian National Philharmonic Orchestra and have participated in notable productions such as Richard Strauss operas and Schoenberg's "Moses und Aron". Since January 2016, the ensemble has been led by choirmaster Csaba Somos, continuing its tradition of musical excellence and innovation.
