Die Kern-Buam was an Austrian folk music group that left an indelible mark on the genre. Formed in the late 1940s in Gradenberg, Styria, the band was a family affair, initially consisting of Adolf Kern and his sons Sepp, Hubert, and Erich. Over their six-decade career, they became one of Austria's most beloved folk music ensembles, known for their distinctive sound and their trademark Styrian hats with feathers.
The group's breakthrough came in 1954 when they won a Styrian radio talent competition with "Der Steirische Brauch." Throughout their long run, Die Kern-Buam released numerous albums and singles, with hits like "Die Goaß is weg" and "I lieg' im Straßengrab'n" becoming folk classics. The band continued performing with various lineup changes until 2009, leaving behind a rich musical legacy that continues to influence Austrian folk music today.
