The New Deal

The New Deal is a seminal live electronic music trio hailing from Toronto, Canada, that emerged on the scene in the late 1990s. The band consists of bassist Dan Kurtz, drummer and percussionist Darren Shearer, and keyboardist Jamie Shields. Pioneers in the genre now known as livetronica, The New Deal blends elements of traditional electronic dance music with live instrumentation, creating a unique, improvisational sound that's earned them a fervent fanbase from the jam band and electronic scenes alike.

Over the years, they've become known for their high-energy performances and spontaneous musical interplay, which are captured in a series of live albums, a testament to their dynamic stage presence. Though the band announced a hiatus in 2011, they returned with fresh material and a rejuvenated spirit. Releases like "Phoenix," "Mercury Switch," and "Age of Discovery" display their continuous evolution while holding true to the improvisational essence that originally defined their sound. The live albums, such as "The New Deal - Live: Charlotte 11.21.19," not only present a snapshot of their onstage prowess but also carry the legacy of a band that has influenced an entire genre of live dance music.
