Ursina Maria Braun is a Swiss cellist and composer born in 1992 near Zurich. A prizewinner of the Leipzig International Johann Sebastian Bach Competition in 2016, she studied cello at prestigious institutions including the Zurich University of the Arts, Mozarteum University Salzburg, and the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. Her training combined classical technique with a focus on historical performance practice, deepening her engagement with Baroque and early music. Known for her versatility, Braun performs as a soloist, chamber musician, and principal cellist with renowned ensembles such as Concentus Musicus Wien and the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra.
She has collaborated with notable artists like Kit Armstrong and Florian Birsak and appeared at festivals including Styriarte Graz and Thüringer Bachwochen. Her playing reflects a passion for detailed musical exploration, especially of Bach’s works, alongside contemporary compositions and improvisation. Her recent recordings include the album "Beethoven - Schubert - Voříšek: Works for Cello and Fortepiano," showcasing her skill on a historically significant cello coupled with fortepiano accompaniment in a style evocative of early 19th-century Viennese salons.
