Before venturing into music, he pursued a career in medicine, a path that would later earn him the affectionate nickname "El cantor doctor" (The Singer Doctor) among his fans.
Castillo's unique singing style, marked by a dramatic and heartfelt delivery, made him an iconic figure in the tango scene during the 1940s and 1950s.
