Brand New is an American rock band that was formed in Long Island, New York, in 2000. The band's lineup consisted of Jesse Lacey (vocals, guitar), Vincent Accardi (guitar, vocals), Garrett Tierney (bass guitar, vocals), and Brian Lane (drums, percussion). Early on, they were frequently associated with the pop punk and emo scenes due to the style and sentiment of their debut album, "Your Favorite Weapon," released in 2001. However, their sound evolved significantly with each album, with "Deja Entendu" in 2003 marking a stylistic shift towards a more intricate and mature sound that garnered both critical acclaim and a dedicated fan base. This trend of experimentation continued with subsequent releases, leading to more ambitious songwriting and sonic exploration, particularly evident in the albums "The Devil And God Are Raging Inside Me" (2006) and "Daisy" (2009).
The band's fifth and final studio album, "Science Fiction," released in 2017, further solidified their standing as icons of the alternative rock and emo genres, with the album earning widespread praise and topping the US Billboard 200 charts. Brand New's music has been known for its emotive lyrics, which often delve into themes of personal angst, existential crisis, and a quest for meaning, all of which have resonated deeply with a generation of listeners. Despite critical success and a fervent fanbase, the band remained enigmatic, often shunning the spotlight and eschewing traditional marketing methods. Throughout their career, they released a series of influential records that helped define the musical landscape of the early 2000s. After nearly two decades of shaping and evolving the emo and alternative rock scenes, the band announced an indefinite hiatus following their final album's release and subsequent allegations of misconduct involving frontman Jesse Lacey.
