The Naked and the Dead is a gothic rock/deathrock band that emerged in Queens, New York, in the mid-1980s. They were part of the vibrant post-punk and proto-goth scene in New York City during that time. Originally formed in 1985, the band featured Christopher Bollman on bass, Greg Fasolino on guitar, Lorianne Oakley on vocals, and alternating drummers John Grady and David Patti. Their initial lineup released a four-song demo, but they disbanded shortly after. The band reunited twice, once in 2002 and again for a performance in 2005, during which Julia Ghoulia from The Brides took over vocals.
The Naked and the Dead are known for their unique blend of pulsing basslines, dark guitar work, and tribal drumming, combined with siren-like vocals, creating a moody yet energetic sound. Their music often features complex time changes, reflecting their punkish intensity without succumbing to gloominess. Some of their notable releases include "The Naked and the Dead," "The Reunion Rehearsals," and "My Plastic Faces".
