Orquestra Gulbenkian

The Orquestra Gulbenkian is a distinguished Portuguese orchestra based in Lisbon, named after the Armenian oil magnate and philanthropist Calouste Gulbenkian. Since its establishment in the middle of the 20th century, the orchestra has developed a reputation for its versatility and excellence, renowned both for its interpretations of the classical repertoire as well as its commitment to contemporary music. The ensemble is a part of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation's wider cultural mission, which includes support for the arts, education, and science throughout Portugal and around the world.

Comprised of highly skilled musicians from various countries, the Orquestra Gulbenkian has collaborated with a host of esteemed conductors and soloists, continuously seeking to enrich its musical offerings. Their recorded works span a range of genres and eras, from the Baroque intricacies of Charpentier and the Classical majesty of Mendelssohn to the Romantic expressions of Rachmaninoff and Puccini's operatic masterpieces. The breadth of their repertoire, as evidenced by their recent releases, showcases the orchestra's dedication to delivering both historically-informed performances of early music as well as dynamic interpretations of later works, all the while nurturing the artistic heritage and educational endeavors of the vibrant Lisbon community.
