Marjan

Marjan, born Shahla Safi Zamir in 1948 in Shiraz, Iran, was a beloved Iranian singer and actress whose career spanned from 1969 until 2012. She gained widespread popularity with her music and acting roles in films such as *Morgh-e tokhm-tala*, *Salam Bar Eshgh*, and *Takye bar baad*. After the 1979 Iranian revolution, she was banned from performing due to her political stance and support for the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK). Despite facing imprisonment alongside her husband, director Ferydoon Jourak, Marjan remained an inspiring symbol of resistance. Ultimately, she emigrated to the United States, where she lived until her passing in Los Angeles in 2020 at the age of 72.

Marjan’s legacy is marked not only by her artistic contributions but also by her courageous stand against repression, inspiring many in Iran and beyond. Her songs and performances continue to be cherished by fans who remember her as a powerful voice of both art and activism.
