Decapitated is a Polish death metal band that was formed in 1996 by guitarist Waclaw "Vogg" Kieltyka, drummer Witold "Vitek" Kieltyka, vocalist Wojciech "Sauron" Wasowicz, and bassist Marcin "Martin" Rygiel. The band gained a reputation for being one of the genre's most talented and precocious outfits, their members still in their teens at the time of their debut album, "Winds of Creation," in 2000. Known for their complex technicality and brutal soundscapes, Decapitated quickly became a stand-out name within the international metal community.

Tragedy struck Decapitated in 2007 when drummer Vitek, younger brother of guitarist Vogg, died in a bus accident while on tour. Subsequently, the band underwent several lineup changes, with Vogg being the only constant member. They continued to evolve their sound while remaining true to their technical death metal roots, as displayed in subsequent releases. "Anticult" (2017) saw the band incorporating groove and even progressive elements, while their latest album, "Cancer Culture" (2022), showcases a matured intensity and social consciousness within their trademark sound. Despite their hardships and evolution, Decapitated has maintained a loyal fanbase and high critical esteem within the extreme metal scene.
