Moonspell

Moonspell is a Portuguese metal band known for their evocative and gothic-infused style, which blends elements of black metal, doom, and dark metal to create their unique sound. Formed in 1992, in Lisbon, Portugal, by vocalist Fernando Ribeiro, bassist Sérgio Crestana, and guitarist Ricardo Amorim, among others, the band has undergone multiple lineup changes while maintaining a consistent presence in the metal scene. Their signature approach often incorporates themes rooted in history, literature, and existentialism, and they are known for singing in both English and Portuguese, adding a distinctive cultural layer to their music.

Moonspell has built an international following over the years, releasing numerous albums and EPs. Their 2017 concept album "1755," which was sung entirely in Portuguese, stood as a historical reflection on the great Lisbon earthquake of that year, further showcasing the band's depth in storytelling through music. Showcasing their live prowess, the album "Lisboa Under the Spell," released in 2018, captured a full live performance in their hometown of Lisbon. With their most recent releases, including the 2021 album "Hermitage," Moonspell continues to explore new sonic terrains and lyrical complexities, offering fans a mature and introspective look at the human condition through the prism of their distinctive gothic metal lens.
