János Kovács

János Kovács is a distinguished Hungarian conductor born on August 14, 1951, in Budapest. He graduated with a conducting diploma from the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in 1973, where he studied under András Kórodi. Kovács has had a prolific career, serving as a conductor at the Hungarian State Opera and regularly leading major Hungarian symphony orchestras, including the Budapest Festival Orchestra and the Hungarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, where he has been principal conductor since 2014. His versatile repertoire spans classical and romantic operas, symphonic pieces, and contemporary music, and he has also enjoyed international engagements across Europe, Asia, and the Americas. Notably, he was Principal Guest Conductor of the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra and has conducted in prominent venues from the Berlin Komische Oper to the Bogota International Music Festival.
