Jiří Skopal

Jiří Skopal is a renowned Czech choral conductor and music educator, born on August 15, 1947, in Velké Losiny, Czech Republic. He began his musical journey under the guidance of his father, Jan Skopal, a choral conductor. Skopal pursued his Master's in Education in Olomouc from 1965 to 1969 and later earned his doctorate in 1973. He became an Associate Professor at Charles University in Prague in 1982 and was promoted to full Professor in 1994. Skopal is best known for his work with the Královéhradecký Children’s Choir Jitro, which he has led to significant national and international success. He has also founded other notable choirs, including Boni Pueri, and has recorded numerous albums with his ensembles.

Skopal's recent releases include albums such as "Hurník: Gratias," "Openings," "In Heaven," "Mácha: Hymnus," "Parallel Worlds," and "Jan Jirásek: Czech & Moravian Christmas Carols." Throughout his career, Skopal has been recognized for his contributions to music, including receiving the Primus Inter Pares award in 2000. He continues to be active in the music scene as a conductor, educator, and judge in national and international competitions.
