Quoia

Quoia is a band from Vancouver Island, formed in the spring of 2008. They are known for their uplifting coastal jams, which reflect their connection to their environment. The band's name, pronounced "kwoi-a," often sparks curiosity, but once committed, it has become an integral part of their identity. Quoia gained popularity on Vancouver Island, particularly through their involvement in the Tall Trees Music Festival, which they founded in 2010. Their music has been well-received, with notable releases like *Wildside* and *Five Feathers*. The band's creative driver, Mike Hann, lays down the foundations of their songs, which are then built upon by the rest of the group.

Quoia's rise to local fame includes playing to large crowds, such as 30,000 people at the Canada Day celebration outside the British Columbia Parliament Buildings. Their single "Let Me Know" also cracked the top 20 on local radio, further solidifying their presence in the music scene. Despite being nominated for awards like Monday Magazine's M Award for favorite Victoria band, their popularity has largely remained confined to Vancouver Island. However, their unique sound and community-driven approach have made them a beloved part of the island's musical landscape.
