Antonio Sánchez

Antonio Sánchez, born in Mexico City in 1971, is a Grammy-winning drummer and composer who has made significant contributions to both the jazz and film music worlds. He began playing the drums at the age of five and later pursued a degree in classical piano at the National Conservatory of Music in Mexico. His quest for musical advancement took him to the prestigious Berklee College of Music and the New England Conservatory of Music, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude in Jazz Studies.

Sánchez's career took a significant leap when he moved to New York City in 1999, quickly establishing himself as one of the most sought-after drummers in the contemporary jazz scene. He has been a long-time member of guitarist Pat Metheny's groups, contributing to a range of projects that showcased his versatility and virtuosity as a drummer. His own projects, such as the critically acclaimed albums "The Meridian Suite" and the revolutionary "Bad Hombre," display his prowess not only as a drummer but also as a composer who seamlessly blends jazz, electronic, and rock elements. Antonio achieved global recognition with his innovative, solo drum score for Alejandro González Iñárritu's film "Birdman," which earned him a Golden Globe nomination and several critics' awards. His recent works, including "SHIFT (Bad Hombre, Vol. II)" and collaborations with artists like Ana Tijoux and Trent Reznor, attest to his continuous evolution as an artist pushing the boundaries of jazz and beyond.
