Horacio Gutiérrez is a Cuban-American pianist renowned for his powerful technique, refined musicality, and masterful interpretations of Romantic and 20th-century repertoire. Born in Havana in 1948, he immigrated to the United States in the early 1960s and quickly rose to prominence. A student of Adele Marcus at the Juilliard School, Gutiérrez gained international attention after winning the Silver Medal at the 1970 International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow.
He has become particularly recognized for his performances of Russian composers like Prokofiev and Tchaikovsky, earning accolades for his dynamic and characterful interpretations. Gutiérrez has played with many of the world’s leading orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, Berlin Philharmonic, and Royal Concertgebouw, and has worked with top conductors such as Zubin Mehta and Lorin Maazel. Alongside his concert career, he's also a respected educator, sharing his experience and passion with the next generation of pianists.
