DAM

DAM (which stands for "Da Arab MC's") is a groundbreaking Palestinian hip-hop group, originating from the city of Lod in Israel. Formed in the late 1990s by siblings Tamer and Suhell Nafar and their friend Mahmoud Jreri, the trio quickly distinguished themselves with their politically charged lyrics and a sound infused with Middle Eastern melodic influences. As one of the first groups to rap in Arabic, DAM's music serves as a powerful voice for the Palestinian people, addressing complex issues such as racism, poverty, and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Their oeuvre stands as a testament to their place at the forefront of pioneering Arabic hip-hop, impressed with their dedication to social justice and cultural reflection. Their 2019 album, "Ben Haana Wa Maana," which translates to "Between Here and There," continues their tradition of melding potent lyrical narratives with traditional Arabic music and modern hip-hop beats. Throughout their career, DAM has remained consistent in using their platform to speak on controversial and vital topics, such as gender equality, which is evident in their celebrated track "JASADIK-HOM" addressing honor killings. With a global following and recognition for their unique artistry and activism, DAM's music continues to resonate and inspire, beyond linguistic and cultural barriers.
