Eyedea

Michael Larsen, known professionally as Eyedea, was an influential figure in the underground hip-hop scene, renowned for his intricate lyricism, philosophical themes, and innovative style. Born on November 9, 1981, in St. Paul, Minnesota, Eyedea began his music career in his teenage years, gaining recognition through battling and freestyle competitions. His prowess in rap battles propelled him to national fame, winning the HBO-televised Blaze Battle and earning a reputation as a formidable emcee.

As a recording artist, Eyedea was one half of the duo Eyedea & Abilities, alongside DJ Abilities. Their collaborative projects, such as "E&A" and "By The Throat," displayed the seamless synergy between Eyedea's thought-provoking verses and Abilities' turntablism. Eyedea's solo endeavors included the deeply introspective album "The Many Faces of Oliver Hart or: How Eye One The Write Too Think," which showcased his dense wordplay and vulnerability. Additionally, Eyedea was part of the collective Rhymesayers Entertainment, which helped shape the indie hip-hop landscape. His debut with DJ Abilities, "First Born," was a critical success that laid the groundwork for his artistic journey. Tragically, Eyedea's career was cut short when he passed away on October 16, 2010, but his influence endures through his profound contributions to the genre, inspiring countless artists and fans who resonated with his authenticity and lyrical prowess.
