The Gnomes

The Gnomes are a vibrant indie rock band from the bayside suburbs of Melbourne, Australia, led by singer-songwriter and guitarist Jay Millar. What began as Jay’s solo bedroom project, where he played all the instruments and recorded lo-fi releases under the name Gnome, evolved into a full band with guitarist Ned Capp, bassist Olly Katsianis, and drummer Ethan Robins. They draw inspiration from '60s garage-beat legends like The Easybeats, The Kinks, and the early Beatles, mixing vintage sounds with a fresh, modern Melbourne energy. Their breakout moment came when the Bandcamp-only *I Like It* EP went viral on a Spanish garage-punk YouTube channel, helping propel their rapid rise in the Australian indie scene.

In 2025, The Gnomes announced their debut album, simply titled *The Gnomes*, featuring twelve original tracks produced by Millar at Frankston’s Singing Bird Studios. The album captures the band’s energetic and authentic rock’n’roll vibe, highlighted in singles like "I’m Not The One," "I’ll Be There," and "Flippin’ Stomp." With a sound that balances raw garage rock with tight musicianship and heartfelt songwriting, The Gnomes have quickly become known for their lively live performances, sharing stages with top Australian acts such as Skegss and Hockey Dad.
