Zé do Rancho, born João Isidoro Pereira, was a renowned Brazilian composer, singer, and music producer. Born on June 4, 1927, in Guapiaçu, São Paulo, he began his career in the 1940s under the name Bonifácio, performing in circus dramas and comedies. He later adopted the name Zé do Rancho, a suggestion from his collaborator Cacau do Sertão, to better fit the sertanejo genre. Zé do Rancho formed several notable duos, including one with his brother Gumercindo, known as Zé do Pinho, and another with his wife Mariazinha. His music often featured traditional instruments like the viola and cavaquinho. He was also a prolific producer, working with major labels like RCA and RGE. Zé do Rancho passed away on February 15, 2015, leaving behind a legacy of over 200 compositions and numerous recordings.
In his later years, Zé do Rancho continued to contribute to the music scene, albeit less formally. His work included releases like *Histórias de uma viola: Entre Parentes e Amigos (Ao Vivo)*, which featured collaborations with his grandchildren, Sandy and Junior Lima. This project showcased his enduring connection to family and music. Zé do Rancho's contributions to Brazilian music are remembered for their depth and influence, especially within the sertanejo genre.
