Gashead is an instrumental rock band that originated in 2002 following the demise of Mike Lopez's previous band, Eve's Drop. Lopez sought a new challenge in instrumental rock guitar, which he found particularly daunting due to the influence of local legends like Fourth Estate. He teamed up with drummer Nate Scofield to record their first CD, *LandSpeedRecord*, released in 2003 on Hapi Skratch Records. This album received outstanding reviews and featured a diverse set of tracks, including hints of thrash and a Spanish-themed number. Over time, the band evolved, incorporating heavier rhythms and eventually adding a vocalist to their lineup. Notable releases include *Knuckles Avec Sombreros*, which showcased their progression towards a heavier sound influenced by the Bay-area thrash scene.
Their discography includes albums like *Seething Apparatus (15 Yr Anniversary Expanded)*, *The Isolationist*, *Juarez*, and *Knuckles Avec Sombreros*, reflecting their growth and experimentation in the instrumental and metal genres. Despite their initial focus on instrumental music, Gashead has explored new directions by incorporating vocals, as seen in their later work. The band's dynamic evolution and diverse musical influences have contributed to their unique sound and appeal.
