Negative Approach

Negative Approach is a legendary hardcore punk band that formed in Detroit, Michigan, in 1981. Often considered one of the foundational bands of the American hardcore scene, they were known for their raw, aggressive sound and nihilistic lyrics. Fronted by John Brannon, whose ferocious vocal style became iconic, Negative Approach made a huge impact with their self-titled 1982 EP and the blistering full-length album Tied Down in 1983. Their music was fast, loud, and uncompromising — capturing the rage and intensity of the early hardcore ethos.

Though the band originally broke up in 1984, their influence never faded, inspiring countless punk and hardcore bands over the decades. Negative Approach reunited in the mid-2000s with Brannon leading the charge once again, playing shows and releasing archival material like Total Recall and Friends Of No One. Their legacy as hardcore pioneers continues to resonate with both longtime fans and new generations discovering their fierce, unfiltered sound.
