Gorgoroth

Gorgoroth is a seminal black metal band that emerged from the frostbitten landscapes of Bergen, Norway, in 1992. Founded by guitarist Infernus (real name Roger Tiegs), the band took its moniker from the dark plains of Mordor in J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Lord of the Rings." The band quickly became one of the leading figures in the Norwegian black metal scene with their raw and uncompromising sound. Gorgoroth's music is characterized by its blistering intensity, satanic themes, and atmospheric brutality, which have garnered them both infamy and critical acclaim within the extreme metal community.

Throughout their turbulent history, marked by numerous lineup changes and legal disputes, Gorgoroth has maintained a relentless dedication to their craft. Albums like their debut "Pentagram" (1994), "Antichrist" (1996), and the aggressive "Under the Sign of Hell" (1997) are cornerstones of the genre, praised for their unyielding intensity and authentic spirit. The band has faced controversy, notably for their shocking live performances, which have sometimes included disturbing stage props and theatrics. Even with the 2011 re-recording of "Under the Sign of Hell," Gorgoroth displayed a commitment to reviving and reinterpreting past glories for new audiences. Their latest studio effort, "Instinctus Bestialis," released in 2015, showcases a matured yet still ferocious sound, reaffirming their status as titans of black metal.
