Don Bryant

Don Bryant is a venerable figure in the soul music genre, whose career has spanned several decades since he first emerged in the 1960s. Born in Memphis, Tennessee, Bryant's foray into music began at an early age, initially gaining notice as a gospel singer before transitioning into soul and rhythm and blues. He is perhaps best known for his work with Hi Records, where he not only released his own records but also contributed as a songwriter, penning songs for other artists on the label, including the hit "I Can't Stand the Rain" for Ann Peebles, whom he later married.

Over the years, Don Bryant's music has been celebrated for its emotional depth, powerful vocals, and an unwavering commitment to the soul tradition. Although he took a hiatus from recording solo albums, he made a triumphant return with releases such as "Don't Give Up on Love" in 2017 and "You Make Me Feel" in 2020, both of which received critical acclaim for their authenticity and heartfelt delivery. These albums, combined with his early work and compilations like "The Willie Mitchell Sessions" and "Rare & Unissued Hi Recordings," showcase the breadth and depth of Bryant's contributions to soul music. Through his enduring career, Bryant has not only preserved the legacy of Memphis soul but also demonstrated its continuing relevance in contemporary music.
